Early years Foundation Stage. FS1 and FS2 (Age 2-5 Years)
We understand the importance of providing a great start to a child’s education igniting their passion for learning as they grow.
Cambridge School offers a fun, stimulating and caring environment, created in a “School within a School” that ensures your child’s safety, as they develop the confidence needed to take on new challenges.
We recognize that each child is uniquely talented. Our goal is to encourage them to achieve their full potential across a wide range of activities, developing new talents as well as stretching the things that they are already good at.
In our Foundation Stage our dedicated teachers encourage and promote ‘active’ learning throughout all the areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum (EYFS), celebrating each child’s achievements and preparing them for a smooth and happy transition into the Primary School.
The curriculum sets out what most children are expected to achieve by the end of the Foundation stage. It is organized as seven areas of learning:
- Personal, social and emotional development
- Physical development
- Communication and language
- Computer technology
- Mathematics
- Understanding the world
- Expressive arts and design
Our experienced teachers encourage and extend each child’s natural curiosity and enthusiasm as they build their range of skills. Over the course of the day, your child will learn in groups, pairs and individually across a range of different activities as we discover their learning styles ad preferences Digital Technology is woven seamlessly into the lessons, ensuring that all children are confident interacting with technology as a learning tool.
Language development is a core skill at this stage. Your child will be encouraged to communicate their ideas using an increasing range of words and structures across a diverse range of themes. Personalized support is at the heart of our teaching, especially in this area and is vital for children whose first language is not English or those with learning challenges.
Your child’s passion for learning, gained in the Foundation Stage, will be encouraged and developed as they enter a more structured day.
Our subject specialists, as well as their class teacher, will stretch your child’s thinking, developing their abilities to observe, question and engage in investigative work across all curriculum areas.
As our child learns to make decisions and seeks greater independence in their learning, we will continue to stretch the range of challenges that they are given. Your child will be encouraged to explore key topics across the subject areas, building their depth of understanding.
Language proficiency is a priority at Cambridge School from the early years and will continue to be led by specialist teachers as we focus on building communication skills in English.
Through a strong programme of expressive arts, your child will continue to develop their imagination and express themselves confidently and creatively. We encourage all of our students to be involved in school performances, both individually and as part of a group. These provide your child with opportunities to build social skills and their confidence whilst learning to work collaboratively to deliver success.
The Cambridge School enrichment programme is carefully designed to offer a wide range of choices including academic, creative and sporting options. We aim to ignite new passions as well as extending existing interests and building skills to support future success.
As they progress through year 3, your child will be increasingly encouraged to manage their time and personal learning goals so that they can organize themselves as they investigate the curriculum in greater depth, ready for the transition to year 4.
Year 3 to year 6
During the upper years of our Nursery School, your child will continue to be encouraged and challenged within a more rigorous academic framework.
We expect that our students will become increasingly capable of organizing their own learning, understanding their goals and knowing when to ask for more help or guidance. Our students will be able to identify their learning strengths, identify areas for growth and develop successful strategies to achieve their goals both academic and personal.
Self-expression through engagement with the arts will allow students to strengthen their self-awareness and cultural identity. As sophisticated language users, our students will engage in debates and discussions both locally and with the use of technology, a part of a wider global audience.
A unique school community at Cambridge School
- For our children, we will create a family atmosphere, where they feel safe as we ignite their passion for learning.
- For our parents, we will operate an open-door policy to listen to concerns and suggestions and encourage involvement in our school.
- For our teachers, we will support professional development so that they can improve their knowledge and skills, learn from colleagues and benefit from partnerships outside school.
- We know that schools are an important part of family life.
- Community service is one Cambridge School curriculum’s core values and we strive to ensure that all children are aware of the importance of helping others and making a difference.
A day in the life of Cambridge School
We understand that it’s not always easy to get a sense of a school before its opened. We hope that these fictional accounts help to explain what we mean by More than an Education.
Lakshmi is in year 2
8.45 am – (Monday : Activity day, early finish) Mum has just dropped me off at school and I have said Hello to my class teacher who greets everyone in the morning. I take my school bag to my classroom and fill up my water bottle on the way. I put my lunchbox on the class trolley so that it can go to the dining hall ready for lunchtime.
09:00am – Every morning we all sing the School prayer song. National anthem in the assembly with additional warm up. Entry into the classroom, start with the prayer before studies.
When we first started, I didn’t know the words or understand what they meant, but my English Teacher is helping us in our lessons to sing them correctly and know what they mean. Today it is my turn to share what I learnt with my class students. I am excited to share what I have been learning.
09:15 am – this term we have been working on a project about beach. It was so exciting to go there last week. I was given a chart to draw pictures. Our Art teacher helped us to draw the pictures of a boat, a fish, sea shell, a kite, balloon, colored it with happiness.
09:45 am – In Mathematics we have been learning about number and Indian currency and their value. To help us with our Mathematics we use a really cool thing called Abacus!
We have been designing t-shirts to sell to visitors to raise money for the poor, and also designing and making our own toys.
Started learning about some birds and how they nest I love learning about the different kinds of birds. My drawing of the sparrow was published in the newspaper.
I got to read texts aloud to my friends in Spoken Word Club.
Our teacher asks us to search for Zoo animals in my Laptop. This is one of my favourites! I love extracting the assigned work with my friends to read them out.
10:30 am – Snacks and break. Its time to eat my healthy snack and play outside with my friends. I am a Water bottle monitor, which means I get to help my friends and check that we all have our Water Bottles filled before we go outside. (School provides with Aqua purified water).
Today my class has been chosen to play in the play ground for our break. It is my favourite place.
10:45 am – Yoga and Aerobics. I am really proud that I can do yoga. I have been working on my arms, legs movements without any help.
11:30 am – Our teacher started with the famous scientists and showed their pictures through flash cards shuffled in random and easy way to memorize.
12:15 pm – Lunch and Break. It is exciting to eat with my friends. Monday is Activity Day and this afternoon we will be taking part in the School Recitation Challenge program.
Ram is in year 6
08:45 am – (Tuesday) Arrived at school early today and headed straight to the School Assembly.
09:15 am – Teambuilding. Following registration with my personal tutor, my mentor group and I worked on a leadership challenge that we had been set about how our group can influence the rest of the school to reduce the use of water. We had some great ideas and I am looking forward to share these with the rest of the year.
10:00 am – English. My best subject! Right now I’m looking forward to going to the theatre to see a play and learn the conversation on how to ask help from my mom to get food and drinks at home.
10:30 am – Morning break. After a quick drink, I went to work on a project where I have to identify the Countries in the World map. Our Maths teacher helped us to paste the country flags on a Map. I am super proud of the work we have done on it.
11:00 am – Mathematics. I like the brain “warm up” we do at the start of every lesson – 2 mental Addition tables and multiplication tables. Questions against the clock. This certainly wakes us up.
11:30 am – Personal Tutor Time. I like this part of the day as I get the chance to talk to my tutor, personally about my work and goals for this week. The tutor has encouraged me to think about the areas I am really good at and the areas I need some help in.
12:15 pm – Lunch. I’m starving. I spoke to Science Teacher about my food technology class next week. I said we are going to learn how to prepare a chart on nutrition food we should take each day and then inform our parents to make it so. She said that she would look forward to sampling my efforts. Afterwards, I went to the garden in the playground just to chill out with my friends.
01:15 pm – Hindi. I really look forward to Hindi classes now because Hindi tutor helps us to feel confident to speak Hindi and write. I can now help my mum to learn Hindi. She was really impressed, even my Hindi writing is getting better!
02:00 pm – Art Teacher is working with us at the moment on our project. We are creating a large weaving project with beads and buttons in the Learning Commons using recycled materials. I think it is great that our school is really challenging us to think about the environment and our impact on it.
02:45 pm – Daily I get chance to work with my Laptop. My computer teacher taught me how to store the drawings and vocabulary sets I learnt in my laptop. I take the printout of my works and file them for evaluation. Each subject is linked with my own Laptop and I love carrying my personal laptop home.
03:30 pm – Home time. Quick dash to the school van. It has been another great day!
